About this event

Join us to celebrate individuals with Down syndrome from Delaware who will be on the big screen in Times Square!

Numerous individuals from Delaware were selected in a National Down Syndrome Society contest to be displayed on the Jumbotron in Times Square on Saturday, September 9th. The Down Syndrome Association of Delaware is sponsoring a bus trip to NYC on the day of the video.

The bus is air conditioned and has a bathroom on board. The bus is limited to 55 seats. We anticipate the spots filling up quickly so make sure to reserve your family's spot ASAP.  We will have the bus to ourselves for the day so families will be able to leave stuff on the bus during the day.

We will depart at 6:00am from the Newark 273/Route 7 Park n Ride on Saturday, September 9th. The bus will bring us right to Times Square by 8:30am. The video will start around 9:30am. Later in the day, we will meet the bus at a TBD location near Times Square in NYC to depart by 6:00pm. The bus will return to the Park n Ride in Newark by ~8:30pm.  The bus will be leaving promptly from both Newark and New York City. Please plan to be early.

The day is yours to explore NYC- we have no planned activities for the group and you are on your own to do as you’d like throughout the day.

The NDSS is holding its Buddy Walk in Central Park following the video screening. If you are interested in attending more info can be found at: https://give.ndss.org/event/2023-new-york-city-buddy-walk-r/e478474.

If you are not interested in attending the walk, you may visit one of the many local tourist sights or museums before meeting back for the bus departure at 6pm.

This event is for DSA of DE members and their immediate families. Please ensure your $15 a year annual family dues have been paid before registering. If you have not paid your dues, visit: https://www.dsadelaware.org/home-page/membership/.

If you have any questions please call or email Kathleen McCormick at programs@dsadelaware.org.

No refunds will be given.

The DSA of Delaware was founded by parents of children with Down syndrome and continues to be driven by parents, family members and others who have a passion for individuals with Down syndrome.  Together we share knowledge and experiences with other families, and help and support new parents.  We promote the need to continue to education ourselves, educational and medical professionals and the public about Down syndrome.  We embrace all of the things our children can do and their potential to be an integral part of our local communities.

Every person is a unique individual with strengths, gifts and dreams. As parents, families and friends of children and young adults with Down syndrome, the DSA of Delaware members have discovered that every person has something special to offer. The individuals in their lives with Down syndrome may have different needs than those who do not, however their ability to enrich, teach and challenge is the same.

Founded in 1979, the DSA of Delaware is a statewide non-profit support group, organized and managed by parents of people with Down syndrome. They aim to be a supportive resource, advocating for the acceptance and understanding that allows individuals with Down syndrome to achieve the same level of access and opportunity as their peers.

Membership and participation is open to all parents, relatives, friends and professionals desiring to make a positive impact on the life of people with Down syndrome.

Membership in the organization is not required to participate in any event held by the DSA of Delaware. Membership does provide for a few privileges:

  • Members vote on by law changes and organizational direction at the annual membership meeting
  • Members can obtain reduced rates on some DSA of Delaware conferences and workshops
  • Members are eligible to apply for scholarships or stipends when available
  • Members provide general support annually to the organization

Membership is annual and can be initiated at any time during the year. Membership dues are $15 per family. To establish membership please make your $15 contribution through the donate form online. Remember to indicate “membership” in the Tribute box on the donation form. Or by mailing a check with “membership” noted on the check.
